Inside The Looming Disaster Of The Salton Sea

Read the article, highlight, circle and make notes in the margins.

Here’s a list of the main topics to be looking for. Each of these should be a few sentences, not just a few words!

What is the Salton Sea? Where is in?
What was it like during the Salton Sea’s heyday? When was this?
Look up “broken windows” theory. Describe it and how it applies to the Salton Sea’s situation.
Why is the Salton Sea dying now?
What will be the results of the Salton Sea dying? How will this impact the surrounding region?
What is the state of California planning to do? Do you think this plan will actually happen? Why or why not?
Make a timeline of the Salton Sea, starting in 1900. This requires jumping around the article a bit. Note, this lake started as a dry basin, rather than a lake!

LO: Describe the distinguishing features of rivers and wetlands.

Go over tests:
- Score: 66 pts (multiple choice@2 ; 6pts on back)
- Analyze test: look at what you missed, highlight on study guide, review & ASK QUESTIONS.
